A Tribute and Memorial to

Ana Duarte-Coiner

News

1st January 2004 - This site has been archived and is no longer being updated.

1st December 2003 - life moves on, and with other projects plus a change of internet access/hosting I feel it's time to let this site rest, or be hosted elsewhere as an archive. Feel free to contact me if you can/want to host it. It will be as an archive, and before sending the site I will try and seperate each year into individual parts instead of having one long page of responses.

The site itself, with the couple of video clips, is around 7mb in size.

If you'd like to host it - feel free to email me, Ashley Hinton, at:

Light a candle to remember Ana, and all the victims of TWA800, on the 17th of July

In the last few years, Ana's friends and those who have grown to know about Ana through this site have lit a candle in her memory on the 17th of July. It would be absolutely beautiful if we all did the same again. Just light a candle and remember everyone aboard that flight, not just Ana but all the other people too. The pilots who, right up until the last moment, were still trying to fly their plane. The people sitting around Ana, the cabin crew... everyone. They are gone but never forgotten, as Ana is never forgotten.

As always, be safe with your candles and remember Ana's warmth and friendship with love.

Over 40000 visitors have read about Ana

As of July 2002, we have had over 40000 visitors - thank you for keeping Ana's memory alive!

More people write in!

One of the major things about this website is that we continue to get people writing in with their thoughts and comments about Ana and this website. The response has been wonderful, and we always welcome more thoughts. Feel free to check out the Memories webpage and follow the link which enables you to write your own piece.

I am considering splitting the page up a little, into possibly 3 different pages. One will have the original pieces written by Ana's friends, another page will have old pieces from the past few years, and then the third will be the current page which will have this year's stuff.

What do people think of the above idea? feel free to email me: webmaster@chal.demon.co.uk (*no longer exists) and let me know.

Kind regards,

Ashley Hinton

Thank you so much to everyone who has written in.

6th of May, 2000

The responses are still coming in, for which I send everyone my sincere thanks and kindest of thoughts for taking the time to share your thoughts about people you knew on the flight, about Ana, and about this website. Please keep your thoughts coming, even if sometimes I take quite a while to post them to the site. I have to do it manually, and try to fit it in with other things in my life, but I promise to try and be a little quicker at writing back to people and getting your words up on this site. The memories section is, and always remains, the most vivid and beautiful part - it's all thanks to everyone who has taken the time to share. THANK YOU!

Updated website as people write in with thoughts and feelings about Ana.

Febuary 2000

The response from the form has been wonderful, people who knew Ana and people who just wanted to know more about our friend have filled out the form and sent their comments and thoughts to us. As a result, I have started to include in the Memories page (with permission) the responses from people. If you want to have something there, fill out the form on the Contact page (you can remain anonymous) and I'll add your words to those of all the people who remember and share Ana's light.

And again, this year on the 17th of July, remember to light a candle in honour and memory of Ana.

Lighting candles to remember Ana

15th of June, 1999 - Oxford, England & The Isle of Skye, Scotland.

Last year people lit a candle on the 17th of July, and we want to repeat this year our way of remembering Ana. On the 17th of July, light a candle and remember the warmth and friendship that Ana gave this world. It doesn't matter what candle it is, or when you light it that day, but the more people who do it.. the better. This joint idea, thought of by Dave Manvell & Ashley Hinton, aims to have as many points of light across the world to remember not only Ana but all of those who died on flight 800.

Please be safe with your candles, and remember not to leave any candle unattended.

Thanks and warm wishes.

Thank you to everyone who lit a candle and remembered Ana, it's taken a while for me to update this site and thank everyone but know that your thoughts, and light, really made a difference. Your warmth helps keep Ana's memory alive.

From Binghamton:

On December 2, 1996 The West Middle School Concert Choir sang at the New York State School Music Association Annual Conference at the Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake.

The choir was part of the keynote event of the conference. This is the highest honor a choir can win in New York State.

Ana Duarte Coiner was among the children who sang on the audition tape. She was looking forward to singing at the concert.

The concert was performed in her honor, with a tribute in the program and an empty space on the stage in the soprano section where she would have stood.

The children sang beautifully and got a standing ovation.

Her inspiration lifted everyone there.

Memorial Services for Ana and her mother Constance Held in Binghamton, NY.

On Saturday, October 5th, 1996, memorial services for Ana and her mother Constance Coiner were held on the State University of New York at Binghamton campus, where Constance taught.

TWA's White Ribbon Memorial.

On Sunday, July 21st, 1996, TWA held memorial services in several cities across the country for the victims of Flight 800. At these services, the TWA employees all wore white ribbons, symbolizing peace and love. We want to carry on this tradition on the Internet. You can use either of the images from this site on your web page if you want to preserve the memories of those who died in this tragic accident.
